Everybody’s favourite media player, VLC, has been upgraded to version 1.1.3. Everybody’s favourite music player? Sure! Because VLC can literally play just about any music or video file out there, and if it doesn’t play, then it’s most likely not music or film. It does so by using a series of internal codecs, so there’s no need to install any extra software, either: everything works straight out of the box.

Because this is an open source project, the volunteers behind this program have ported it to many different operating systems: Are you using Windows 2000 or something upwards of that, one of the various flavours of GNU/Linux, or MacOS X, perhaps…no problem: there’s a version for you. If your system is not supported, you can even get the source code and try to compile it yourself.

What is really fantastic is all the different kinds of input it supports. Sure, it can play something from your hard disk, but what about this: if you connect it to a DVB source (Digital Video Broadcasting, via your satellite receiver, your digital TV receiver, or cable TV), it will play that, too. Give it any kind of streaming media via the internet, and you make it happy. If there are subtitles available, it will show them, of course, and if there aren’t, you can always add them. You can even use VLC to send your own streaming music/video over the internet, but if you’re advanced enough to understand this, you probably already knew.

Ik geef het meteen grif toe -het logo is nu niet meteen eye candy, maar dat doet aan het product zelf niets af eigenlijk. Format Factory is een gratis multimedia-conversieprogramma, wat inhoudt dat je het kunt gebruiken om je HD afleveringen van Heidi in de Bergen om te zetten naar een formaat dat geschikt is om op je gps af te spelen -om maar iets te zeggen, quoi.

Waarschijnlijk naar aanleiding van de post over pdf to word werd ik een paar weken geleden gecontacteerd door de firma Smartsoft met de vraag of op deze blog een link naar hun Free pdf to Word kon worden geplaatst.  Ik heb het product eens getest enneu… nou, laat ik zeggen dat ik er wel wat ervaringen over wil schrijven, maar een link aanbieden? Nee, toch niet, dank u wel.

Het omzetten van Worddocumenten naar pdf kan soms wel wat voeten in de aarde hebben -paginanummers verspringen, afbeeldingsranden kloppen niet meer, speciale effectjes zoals slagschaduw zijn minder mooi en subtiel afgewerkt en ga zo maar door. De omgekeerde conversie -van pdf naar Word- is zo mogelijk nóg ambetanter, wat op zich weinig wenkbrauwen hoeft doen te fronsen: pdf is nu eenmaal bedoeld als eindproduct, niet bedoeld om opnieuw te importeren in een tekstverwerker en verder aan te passen. Diegenen die ooit al zitten vloeken hebben omdat de conversie van pdf naar Word maar niet wilde lukken zullen nu ongetwijfeld blij zijn met de komst van PDF to Word: een online applicatie die een klein mirakel belooft. Zoho heeft net de nieuwe versie van Zoho Writer gelanceerd. Hoewel er wel meerdere nieuwe features zijn, toch is de meest evidente de nieuwe interface die steeds meer op de Ribbon uit allerhande Office-applicaties gaat gelijken. Het is misschien een persoonlijke indruk, maar die nieuwe interface geeft het geheel wat meer cachet, wat meer professionele allures. Read the rest of this entry »

Op deze pagina vind je een lijst van 15 handige tools & plugins voor Office: metadata analyzers, Xobni, lookeen, en nog vele andere. Elke plugin krijgt een mooie beschrijving van wat het precies doet, hoeveel het kost, screenshotje erbij… zeker een bezoekje waard! De kans is ook groot dat je de 10 grootste Outlook-ergernissen eens wilt bekijken

Tja, ik ben momenteel eigenlijk met iets anders bezig, en had op mijn verlofdag voorgenomen alleen maar dingen te doen die niets met de faculteit te maken hebben, maar dit kan ik echt niet stilhouden. Sumo Paint -5 minuten geleden had ik er nog nooit van gehoord- is werkelijk veel te indrukwekkend!

Het is intussen al een tijdje geleden sinds ik hier laatst iets heb gepost -je weet hoe dat gaat: examens verbeteren, feedback geven, naar Cercle gaan.  Een mens zou er zowaar zijn blog bij vergeten -wat ik onlangs zag op het net, kan ik moeilijk voor mezelf houden -vééééél te handig! Color Scheme Designer is de naam, aangenaam.
