Tired of Facebook?

Many people have been trying to get rid of their Facebook accounts, and have found that Facebook is not that keen on letting you go. In fact, most of us will be able to use the “Deactivate account” option under Account > Application settings, but this just makes your account dormant. Log into it again, and it will be automatically activated.

But what if you really want to get rid of Facebook then? Head over to https://ssl.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=delete_account.  You’ll get a page where you can choose to permanently delete the account. Just make sure you don’t log in for 14 days, and then everything will be gone for ever. (And yes, your friends will probably miss you.)

WordPress 3.0

WordPress 3.0 has been released for quite a while now, but you know what we’re really missing out on, over here at Let’s Learn IT? We want *integration* ! Why is there still no plugin (that works) which can connect this site with, say, Facebook or so?

Ping.fm has support for the wordpress.com sites, but not for the wordpress.org sites (which is what we use). They’ve promised us that they’re working on a solution, though. Nice folks, those at Ping.fm. :-)

Upgrade: WordPress 2.9.1

Last week a minor update was released of WordPress 2.9, which itself was released halfway through December last year. So…what are the goodies brought to us in this shiny, new version? Well…if you are one of those people who find themselves throwing brilliant pieces of writing in the bin (and of course regretting having done so soon afterwards), then we have good news for you: 2.9 gives you the possibility for recovering postings from the bin. Images can be edited, too, and it has become easier to embed videos in posts.

This minor upgrade fixes 34 problems, and if you’ve experienced problems with any of these problems before, then now is a good time to do the update. And if you don’t want to download the upgrade, then you can always go upgrade automatically via the Tools > Upgrade menu in your blog’s admin area.

Who needs Sharepoint workflows when you have the Web at your disposal? In spite of all the YAs (yet another …) every once in a while there’s that one particular application that really catches your attention -Backboard really does belong to that last category. Want to know why? Then read on …

Firefox Extensions: Juice & Webmynd

I haven’t been quite happy with my firefox lately -it crashes more than Richard Hammond and is often as slow as Captain Slow himself-, so much so that I wouldn’t mind switching to Chrome for good, if it weren’t for all those addons I have to come to love: think Xmarks (used to be Foxmarks), Downloadhelper and the likes. Recently I have added two that may prove indispensable as well: Juice & Webmynd, both add-ons that promise enhanced search features.

Upgrade: WordPress 2.8.6

WordPress, one of the better blog systems out there (so good that we at Let’s Learn IT are using it ourselves ;-) ), and probably the only blog system that you’ll have up and running on your server in 5 minutes or less, have upgraded their software to version 2.8.6.

The latest version can be downloaded from their site, and contains the following changes:

Google Docs: finally folder sharing!

Oh joy! Oh rapture! By finally offering the option to share an entire folder rather than all the documents separately, Google probably made millions of avid Google Doc adepts happy for the rest of the day. Up till today, sharing multiple Google docs was such a tedious & repetitive mouseclicking job that nothing remains from my right index finger apart from a short little stump.

A massive timesaver: sharing multiple docs in an instant!

Google working on integration

2009-10-11_1436

If you’re like me, then you probably can’t wait until Google finally does what many other companies have already done for them (i.e. making GDrive available, so that you can use those countless gigabytes for something more useful than, say, collecting the last 100,000 emails you have been sent). Alas, alas…no GDrive yet, but still, there’s something else to get you excited about.

Google Sites now allows you to integrate files from all of Google’s other sites: presentations or spreadsheets that you’ve added to Google Docs, or videos from Youtube, or pictures from Picasa…it can all be added with a few simple mouse clicks.

The really good news is that you don’t lose file space in Sites when you integrate pictures from Picasa, for instance, which is very interesting when you want to create a webquest with Google Sites or so…

Combineer Google Calendar & GMail

Free pdf to Word: over katten en zakken
